Hardware work

We had some work to do a couple of days ago on smart cards, magnetic stripes and barcodes. We have to find the difference on barcodes and magnetic stripes and research the purpose of smart cards.

Magnetic Stripe
Magnetic stripe can store amounts of data by modifying magnetic particles fixated on the card.

Barcode
Barcode is a numeric representation of data. Data is not stored in the numbers. When the barcode is scanned or identified it matches with the same number in a database, which stores the data for which the barcode represents.

Smart Card
A card with embedded circuits which can process data. smartcards are highly secure in comparison to the magnetic stripe. the data stored on smart codes are encrypted to prevent data from being interpreted or stolen.

Google Voice

Today we have to research stuff on google voice. I think its pretty cool, except for the voice recording of conversations.

Basically Google Voice will allow you to recieve all your calls through a single number. The user has control over how their phone rings and operates. calls can be made from your phone and online, block callers at will and record custom greetings for different callers or groups.

Voice mail will be recieved in one location, and unanswered calls will go straight to google voicemail. Messages are checked by calling your google number or signing in to google voice.

Features include:
- ListenIn: It allows you to listen to voicemail messages as they are being recorded and it can be answered, if the reciever wants to reply.
- Recording Calls: As the title imply, calls can be recorded.
- Switching phones: By pressing a button calls from the moblie can be switched to the house phone, desk phone or whatever. I think thats pretty cool.

I found an article on cnet website about the application.

Hardware for Computer Games

What hardware components would be suitable for a computer system that would be good for extreme multimeadia based games?
  • A larger external hardrive would be suitable for the computer system to store the games. That way it wont slow down the computer.
  • RAM (more of it) more than 1 GB of RAM. It is a hidden storage space for non graphical components to the game.
  • Game pads are used to play with more than one player. If there is more than one player it wouldn't be practical to use the just a keyboard.
  • Gaming keyboard, contains special keys which are needed for certain games
  • Laser mouse would have additional button to control game processes
  • Gaming Computer: Designed for playing video games by handling high speeds, large streams of data and 3D Graphics.
  • Graphics card: gaming computers need graphic cards or video cards incoroporated into the mother board. modern games need good graphics
  • CRT OR LCD monitor: need a monitor with quick response time and high refresh rate to have smooth motion displayed. more than one screen can be used.
  • Sound cards: Need good sound cards for the system, to have good quality of sound and a card that has sound effects so that there isnt too much load on the CPU.
  • Surround sound: need full quality sound when gaming.

Assignment

We finished everything on Thursday which is awesome!!!
The gantt chart, requirement report, context diagram and data flow diagram were all handed up with the website, so there is no need to upload onto my blog. But if I feel like it I'll do it.

After The Holidays

So now for the past two weeks I have been working on the profile page and the context and data flow diagram. The profile page consists of one main page seperated into seven sections, which are our school's house colour. The nominee's name would be placed underneath there house. The students name would have a link to take the student to view the nominee's profile and details, so that they know who they are gonna vote for for. I'm currently working on it now.

Also for the past two days me, jess and mariel have been working on composing our data flow diagram and context diagram. The context diagram was heaps easy to do cause it was really simple, though the data flow required more effort to think and add specific details of where the data is going and whos recieving and transmitting etc. We are still currently working on it. We have 1 day left, but if we don't finish we have an extension of one day =D.

IPT Group Assignment

29/06/09
Today we made a draft layout for our front page and we decided to use i frames and html because we thought that it would be easier. It has the navigation on the left hand side of the webpage, with a massive heading. The information is located in the center of the page. It will have a mini scroll bar. ^^I also made a draft layout for the online leadership application form which consited with information such as name, positions, interests within school, what could you bring to the school, your mercy values and other stuff like that. I also found all the information for leadership details, which was hidden somewhere on our school site. Seriously the teachers need to put it in a place where all can see =.=.

1/07/09
Today, I seperated the leadership positions into seperate word documents and divided them for me and mariel to code. I got seven of them, but because its been like a whole month since I updated my blog I have forgotten the ones I did >.<. But it's okay, I remeber doing the guidlines page and that took forever. The purpose of seperating the pages was to make it look more presentable on our webpage. We had to use breaks, paragraphs, bold, center and different font sizes for certain parts of the documents. By the end I know alot about the virtues and capabilities a leader must have. For a time consuming task it was to a degree fun and relatively easy to do.

2/07/09
Today I finished off the coding and then transferred them on notepad to see how it'd look. Jess Bee realised that we didnt need to include the (breaks) in the page. So I decided to edit all the pages since Mariel was away. I put them all in notepad and started fixing things up again such as the titles and font sizes. This went on for a bit and it gave me a headache. The worst was the guidelines page. It needed many lists, headings and paragraphs. This took a whole lesson just to perfect.

8/07/09
I started working on the leadership page, where it connects to the leadership positions. Took me a bit to figure out how to put an invisible table and how to adjust it and all. I had to put links in the table to connect the positions in the cell with their appropriate page. Like the policy link had to connect with the policy page. This was fun. It went on for around two days. Although it was simple to do, it took time =.=". It also looked a tad bit plain, but appropriate for the website. So I reckon its perfect!! =D

Assessment Task 3

This is very delayed. I was supposed to keep entries in my blog, but I kinda got side tracked with the assignment, though luckly I wrote down everything I did each day I my school diary =D.

Journal Entry One- 22/4/09 , 24/4/09 and 25/4/09
Today our group officially began our assignment. This third task is a group task and we have to create a problem which can be solved using an information system that encorporates audio, visual, text e.c.t. components.

My group consists of Jessica, Mariel and ME!! >.<
Well anyways back to the point, the problem we decided to work on was one based in our school. This year and last year we had the option of voting for leaders. The process that involved the leadership applications, was all hand based. The nominee would have to submit letters, awards, proposals for their sumbission to become a leader, which is a bothersome process for lazy people or people who want to become a leader but dont have the time to apply.

So the solution to this is to have an online page that centrally focuses on the role of leadership and application online. Our group composed a picture storyboard, heirarchy storyboard and a written proposal of our project.

Briefly our proposal contained what will be included on the website which will be announcements, vote submissions, information on leadership positions, online application form, downloadable version, profiles and descriptions (purpose of this is for any student can acess information of nominees and choose who they want the leader to be and other stuff.

My job is to find leadership positions, code and make into html pages, put up a sample profile page
